I have recently started reading The King's
Deception by Steve Berry, so far I am really enjoying it. I have read several of Steve Berry's books before and really enjoyed them all. I like his writing style and how he balances action and story line. I always understand what is going on but am never bored because of the rapid sequences of action. It is set in modern
day but there are periodical flashbacks to the time of Henry VIII. This book is
about Henry VIII's hidden wealth and what happened to it. There is a terrorist
who is getting released from prison after he was sentenced to life in prison and
the US need to find something to force England to stop that. So the
CIA was tasked into looking for King Henry VIII’s hidden treasure to get
England to intervene. One CIA member said, “’ The only way to stop this is to
force the British to intervene.’” This shows that the CIA is looking for a way
to blackmail the British into keeping the terrorist in prison.
Cotton Malone, A retired spy, is called back into
action to deliver a criminal the CIA thought could help them, but on the way they
are taken hostage by a pair of fake CIA agents. Cotton manages to free his son,
who he took with him, and the prisoner. Cotton himself gets free but his son is
again taken hostage. Cotton teams up with the criminal to find his son and
figure out why this is so important. That was where my reading left off, I will
write a full summary when I finish the book.
